Adapted Mind

http://www.adaptedmind.com

AdaptedMind is a 1-8 grade Math website that has been created by Harvard, Berkeley and Stanford graduates.  The math portion of the website is divided first by grade level and then by topic.  Each topic has at least 5 different lessons and each lesson has 500 problems, explanations, and an instructional videos.  Each instructional lesson is set up like a game but if a student gets a problem incorrect the game pauses so the student can receive a text or video explanation.  One of the nice things about AdaptedMind is that you can request one free trial month.  After the free trial it is $9.95 a month for the reading and math sections of the website.  Families will find this a good deal because up to 5 children can be on one account.

IXL Language Arts has exercises for students in grades 2-10.  The practice problems become increasingly more difficult as the Childs skill level improves. Each lesson reinforces the Common Core Language Arts Standards.  A wonderful advantage to IXL Language Arts is if a student misses a question the child will receive an immediate explanation to solidify understanding.  After purchasing the program parents will receive a weekly e-mail explaining their child’s successes and trouble spots.  Parents may purchase this wonderful website for $9.95 a month or $79 yearly.  As an added bonus with the purchase of IXL Language Arts your child will have access to IXL Math.

BrainPop is a wonderful website that I would highly recommend for homeschooled kids. The website includes hundreds of standards-aligned animated movies, quizzes, games, high-interest readings, and activities.   The website covers all of the core educational subjects; Science, Social Studies, English, Math as well as Art, Music, Health, Engineering and Technology.  Brain Pop has created many different learning centers.  BrainPop Jr.  (for K-3), BrainPop (all ages), BrainPop ESP & FRA, and Brain POP ESL.  Many school districts around the country use these different learning centers to reinforce the information being taught in class.  Brainpop.com allows users to try different parts of the website without paying.  However, for complete access to all of the wonderful learning tools the website costs around $100 a year.
